Matthews Automation Published

Matthews Automation Solutions, a provider of innovative material handling systems and software, has been included in two annual publications about industry-transforming automation software in the warehousing and logistics space.

STIQ Ltd, a publisher of market industry reports focusing on supply chain technology, robotics, and warehouse automation, has shared their Warehouse Management Software Report for 2024. The report shares technology trends, common approaches, and the global economic outlook for warehouse management systems (WMS). The report also explores the evolving role of warehouse execution system (WES) software and its relationship with WMS and warehouse control systems (WCS) in the distribution center.

Gary Cash, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Matthews Automation, contributed to the report along with 40 other global stakeholders in companies providing warehouse automation and software solutions.

When asked about the increased complexity of warehousing processes being seen as an opportunity for WES software, Gary responded, “If you have a WCS, it is managing islands of automation. The software handles sorting in a unit sorter, and separately manages pulling and putting totes in an ASRS. A WES is when the software is more holistically running the warehouse. There’s two words I use which are ‘balance and flow’ to describe a WES. The software purposefully releases orders in a balanced method which manages volume, so work doesn’t overflow an area and create gridlock, nor does it underflow so operators are idle. So, it’s about the balance and flow in the building and managing it holistically.”

Matthews Automation is a provider of innovative warehouse automation, software, controls, order fulfillment systems, and robotics, with thousands of applications in distribution centers worldwide.

Along with participating in STIQ’s market report, for the third consecutive year Matthews Automation has also been recognized as a vendor in Gartner’s Hype Cycle report for their warehouse execution system (WES) software.

This year Gartner also mentioned Matthews as a vendor in their Technology Trends Transforming Warehousing report for both WES and warehouse control system (WCS) software.

“We have been an established warehouse controls system provider for over 30 years, and our continuous evolution, including features such as Information Anywhere, workflow management and adaptive intelligence, has allowed us to re-define and expand the meaning of WES,” says Cash.
