New Automated Sling Release Enhances Safety and Productivity

CraneEquipment.ca has launched a new automated sling release device called the Gotcha. Currently available in 2.5 and 5 ton capacity models, they are easy to maneuver because they are lightweight. The below-the-hook tool is being used in a variety of crane and other applications.

The torpedo profile keeps the unit from getting stuck under structures and more effective in windy conditions. The smaller unit has a 6.5 inch diameter and weighs 44 pounds, while the 5 ton system offers 8.5 inches and is 55 pounds. Both come with a variety of features, including a load sensor that triggers a warning alarm when accidentally trying to release with the load still on the device, but retains safe control of the sling.

Unloading operations are inherently dangerous, especially when a rigger has to access a hook positioned at height or on top of the load. Gotcha eliminates the need for personnel to release slings manually, saving time and enhancing safety. The remote control is manufactured specifically for CraneEquipment.ca and can be used up to 500 feet from the hook. It can also be programmed for multiple Gotchas to release at the same time. The unit comes with two rechargeable batteries, a charger and the remote control.

Daniel Hébert, vice president of business development, said: “We have sold over 150 units in North America and have additional Gotchas in inventory ready to ship. The lead time is no more than a couple of days. Gotcha offers users quick return on investment, utilizing the benefits of an accurate, safe, durable below-the-hook device.”

The Gotcha has already enhanced productivity and safety in construction, steel, energy, industrial, material handling and manufacturing applications.

The Gotcha is currently available in 2.5 and 5 ton capacity models.

Hébert added: “Distributors should note that, in construction applications, using the Gotcha provides a 25% time-saving for end users. Why not be the first to offer this innovative below-the-hook tool in your region?”
