CICB Expands into Middle East with Qatar Contract

U.S.-based crane inspection and safety training company Crane Inspection & Certification Bureau (CICB) has continued its international growth with expansion into the Middle East, providing services to a petrochemical firm in Qatar.

As energy demands increase, the Qatar company is building a liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility in Ras Laffan, an industrial city designed and built to process the resources of the North Gas Field, a non-associated gas field, spanning over 3,738 miles. The city is 66 square miles, is continuously under construction, and has a huge artificial harbor.pic4

As the LNG facility is constructed, CICB will work onsite with the client and its subsidiaries to provide annual crane inspections and training in compliance with federal, local, and corporate regulatory guidelines. A team of six CICB certified crane inspectors recently completed a four-week project at the LNG facility, inspecting 9,000 pieces of rigging gear and over 125 mobile and tower cranes, many suspended at 200 feet and above. This was the second annual project for the client, and CICB has now won an exclusive contract for crane services.

Previously, CICB had conducted inspections and training in North and South America, Africa, the Far East, and Europe; CICB instructors and inspectors are proficient in the national standards of dozens of countries.pic3

Shawn Khan, key account manager, CICB, said: “We are thrilled to win this work in Qatar, and expand our international presence to a new region. We expect to see this pattern of international expansion continue as we go after new markets and bring our industry knowledge and expertise worldwide.”
