Stair-Stepped Flow Rack
Creform Corporation has designed a new ESD flow rack with stair-stepped design for an automotive assembly operation.
The rack features FIFO delivery and proper ergonomics required for operator comfort and picking efficiency. It features three levels for product presentation with one lane per level while the bottom level extends out for enhanced and easy access. The top level of the rack holds empty containers for return to the service aisle.
Each of the rack’s levels can be repositioned and with the stair stepped design, each level can be raised or lowered without changing the length of the conveyor. This greatly simplifies adjustment. Position changes require only a simple hex wrench.
The dimensions of the flow rack pictured are 63″ T x 48″ D x 30″ W and is designed to hold up to 400 lb. The structure is built with ESD skatewheel conveyor rollers, “black” pipe and nickel-plated metal joints per the customer’s anti-static requirement. It features six heavy-duty feet while the front feet are stanchion mounts that can be bolted to the floor or a platform to secure rack in position.
The rack’s lanes feature physical separators on both sides so that the totes are contained as they flow smoothly.
As with all Creform flow racks, higher capacity, sizes and configurations are possible. A wide variety of pipe colors are available for non-ESD applications, and accessories can include information sheet holders, label holders, tool storage, hooks to hang tools and other supplies.
Creform flow racks are suitable for warehouse or manufacturing plant use and can be built on wheels rather than feet. They are available as a kit or an assembled structure or in the component form for a complete DIY solution.
The system is used to create an array of material handling and efficiency enhancing devices and is a proven component in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing programs. The company partners with customers in developing and implementing these programs.
