Dematic to Expand Micro-Fulfillment Solution
Dematic announced at the National Retail Federation (NRF) Conference & Expo the expansion of its Dematic Micro-Fulfillment solution for general merchandise and apparel industries to help retailers address rising consumer demand for rapid e-commerce order fulfillment and delivery.
Dematic has a rich history with retailers developing and implementing intelligent order fulfillment solutions for their distribution centers. The Dematic Micro-Fulfillment solution continues this relationship as a trusted partner addressing the challenges of the retail and apparel spaces.
2019 U.S. retail e-commerce revenue is estimated to top $110 billion and is projected to grow to almost $146 billion by 2023. Despite this growing market opportunity, general merchandise and apparel retailers have struggled to make e-commerce order fulfillment cost-effective, efficient and profitable.
“The retail market is ripe for automation disruption, demonstrated by the immediate interest we’ve received from leading retail brands wanting to know more about micro-fulfillment,” said Dematic President and CEO Hasan Dandashly. “We began this by helping our grocery customers power the future of commerce with micro-fulfillment — general merchandise and apparel represent a natural next step.”
Dandashly continued, “We believe the Dematic Micro-Fulfillment solution will soon set the standard for modern order fulfillment, and our proven automation technology and global scale uniquely positions us to advance fulfillment strategies for retail brands worldwide.”
Fast and flexible, the Dematic Micro-Fulfillment solution can be installed in as little as 12 weeks and in locations as small as 10,000 sq. ft. This compact design makes it possible to install in the back of existing retail locations, directly supporting online orders for consumers within a specific radius. Such close proximity enables companies to make better use of space at existing storefronts, streamline e-commerce order fulfillment and last-mile delivery, while providing a better end-consumer experience online and in-store.
Dematic technology offers a distinct competitive advantage. Software developed especially for the Dematic Micro-Fulfillment solution drives intelligent operation and tightly integrates with enterprise systems, so retailers retain control of their data. Proven controls and designs ensure continuously productive operation.
This announcement quickly follows the commercial availability of Dematic’s Micro-Fulfillment solution and the company’s first public installation announcement with leading U.S. grocer Meijer. Meijer’s system is scheduled to be operational in Q1 2020, and Dematic expects to share additional customer installation momentum in the coming months.
Dematic at NRF 2020
In addition to highlighting its Micro-Fulfillment solution at NRF 2020, the company is also featuring the Dematic Merchandise Returns System Solution, a reverse logistics processing solution for omni-channel retailers.
As retailers and wholesalers are experiencing increasing quantities of returned merchandise from their e-commerce sales channels, companies are looking for new ways to optimize reverse logistics operations and reduce lost revenue. The Dematic Merchandise Returns System provides an automated material handling sub-system for distribution centers that accelerates and streamlines all the processing steps required to provide customer credit, enter exchanged order, and make returned items available for sale.
