DHL Global Forwarding Warehouse
DHL Global Forwarding, the air and ocean freight forwarding division of Deutsche Post DHL Group, has opened a new 40,000 square foot warehouse located near the Research Triangle area in Raleigh, North Carolina.
- The facility boasts specialized capabilities to service life sciences, healthcare and pharmaceutical companies and other local customers.
“The Research Triangle is a growing distribution hub and we are seeing many of our customers increase their investments in the area,” said Tim Robertson, CEO of DHL Global Forwarding Americas.
“Our new state-of-the-art warehouse is designed to support our customers, including those with products that require specialized handling and temperate control, as they look to take advantage of the growth opportunities in the region.
“The Research Triangle Park Area is one of the leading technology and R&D hubs in the United States, so we are also very excited to also have better access to the skilled talent in the region who may want to partner with DHL or explore career opportunities in the freight forwarding industry, which is embracing new technologies to improve and support global trade flows.”
The Raleigh-Durham facility is equipped with 40,000 square feet of warehouse space that is divided into:
- A 18,000 square foot cooler conditioned between 2-8 degrees Celsius and subdivided into three 6,000 square foot chambers.
- A 22,000 square feet chamber conditioned between 15-25 degrees Celsius.
These temperature conditions are especially important for life sciences, healthcare and pharmaceutical companies to transport their products. On an annual basis, the facility is expected to process 72,000 pallets and 1,100 containers from air freight operations and ocean freight transloads.
- DHL Global Forwarding has invested US$8 million into the warehouse, which is the latest expression of the company’s commitment to continuing to expand its cold chain logistics operations.
It is the largest cold chain facility within the DHL Global Forwarding network in the South East region. This announcement follows DHL Global Forwarding’s announcement of a planned US$16 million investment for the expansion of cold chain logistics operations across Puerto Rico, which houses a large number of life sciences and healthcare companies.
“With these latest investments in North Carolina and Puerto Rico, we will be able to keep delivering on our service promise to all our customers and the world at large, ensuring temperature-sensitive life sciences cargo can be safely shipped throughout the region,” explained Robertson.
