DHL Relocates in California
DHL has relocated its Carson, Calif. pickup and delivery operation to a state-of-the-art service center in Redondo Beach that is 60 percent larger than its previous facility.
The $5m investment increases shipment capacity and enables faster shipment processing, resulting in earlier deliveries for Long Beach and South Bay area customers.
The new facility at 4000 Redondo Beach Avenue, Redondo Beach, Calif. serves more than 50 cities in the Southern California region, and is less than 4 miles from Los Angeles International Airport, where DHL operates international and domestic flights to and from its LAX Gateway.
With 40,000 feet of warehousing and office space, the facility has been improved with newly upgraded material handling equipment, as well as double the positions available for vehicles — up to 56 — to load and unload freight around its conveyor system.
“DHL is pleased to expand and improve its capabilities for international shippers within the nation’s largest export market, and continue to help customers – both large and small – capitalize on business growth opportunities beyond our borders,” said Aaron Gallagher, VP and General Manager of DHL Express.
Staffed by more than 80 DHL employees, the larger service center can process up to 3,775 pieces per hour, handling both U.S. domestic as well as time-definite international shipments to and from the 225 countries and territories served by DHL Express.
Local package delivery growth has been driven by e-commerce shipping as well as customers in banking, technology, fashion and aerospace industries.
The facility is also equipped with charging stations, as it will soon introduce fully electric pickup and delivery vehicles.
This supports Deutsche Post DHL Group’s sustainability roadmap that targets 60% of its global delivery fleet to be electrically powered by 2030.
