ER Skids Bricker Transformers
When Bricker Transport, a heavy hauling company, received a contract to transport, deliver and install a series of transformers across Texas, they knew they would need to augment their fleet to fulfill the project.
While Bricker owns a wide array of heavy haul and rigging equipment, they did not have a skidding system capable of transporting the 220-ton transformers from their trailers to the pedestals.
The first transformer was scheduled to be installed in just a week, so Bricker needed a sure-fire rental solution…and fast!
Bricker called John Kuka, Director of Business Development at Engineered Rigging (ER), to talk through the project needs.
“The team at Bricker needed a skidding system with a high load capacity and the ability to span from crib stack to crib stack,” said Kuka.
“After a quick discussion of the project specifics, I knew that our Power Slide 500-ton system was the right fit.”
Within 48 hours of the initial conversation, the ER heavy lifting team prepared the Power Slide 500, which consists of four 125-ton load shoes, two push/pull units, a hydraulic power pack and 116 feet of track, as well as Azobe wood timbers in frames for cribbing.
The next morning, Bricker left ER’s yard in Russellville, Arkansas, with the equipment needed to safely and efficiently perform their skidding operations.
“When Bricker reached the first installation site in Texas, they realized that the transformer would need to be turned before placement on the pedestal,” added Kuka.
“We provided a 440-ton Enerpac hydraulic turntable, which was ready for pick up the next day.”
Bricker successfully delivered and installed the first transformer in July 2023, followed by four additional transformers across West Texas.
Birck Jones of Bricker Transport said, “Engineered Rigging‘s equipment is immaculate and allowed us to get this work done quickly and without incident.”
Through competitive pricing and availability, ER’s rental fleet provided Bricker with the ability to complete these projects on time and withing budget. By renting the equipment it needed for this project, Bricker avoided a significant capital investment and the current long lead times on new heavy lifting equipment that a purchase would require.
The Power Slide 500, designed and built by Engineered Rigging, and the Enerpac TT400 turntable are part of ER’s extensive rental fleet.
The ER team provided skidding system solutions as part of a bridge launch system in Indiana, the removal of a transformer in Montana, and a building relocation in Florida.
