Irwin Car Distributes Magnetic Systems
Irwin Car, Irwin, Pa., recently began distributing the German-made Maglogix Alfra magnetic systems. The permanent lifting magnets can hold in excess of 500 times their own weight, making them ideal for fabrication shops lifting, moving, and positioning sheeting up to 3/8 inches thick. According to Dave Fitzpatrick, vice president of Irwin Car, more companies today have no touch policies, and the magnet systems provide a safer lifting environment at a lower cost. Fitzpatrick reported Irwin Car has successfully integrated the Maglogix Alfra magnet systems in its own fabrication facility.
Products available include the TMH hand-lifting magnet, which has a maximum lifting capacity of 66 lbs. on 1/8-inch thick A36 steel and a maximum holding force of more than 660 lbs. Weighing only 3.5 lbs., the TMH allows users can move parts from one location in a facility to another without the use of a hoist or overhead crane.
Weighing less than 4 lbs., the TML 220 lifting magnet features a 360-degree rotating and swiveling lifting hook to be used in conjunction with an overhead or mobile crane. The TML has a 110-lb. capacity when lifting 1/8-inch steel and up to 220 lbs. of capacity up to 1/4-inch steel. Breakaway force is up to 660 lbs. on 1/4-inch, A36 steel. the TML 220 lifting magnet has a maximum vertical lifting capacity of 70 lbs. with a 3:1 safety factor.
Other lifting magnets available are the TML 550 and the TML 1100. At only 7.7 lbs., the TML 550 can lift up to 550 lbs. of 3/8-inch-thick steel and 20 lbs at 1/8-inch thick steel. The 16-lb. TML 1100 as a 660-lb. lifting force on 3/16-inch material and 1,078 lbs. on 3/8-inch steel. Both feature a 360-degree rotating and swiveling lifting hook. Users will find the devices ergonomic due to their single-lever activation.
All Maglogix magnetics attach to the metal sheeting and are secured with an on-off switch. Magnets are TiN-coated and have a hardened steel magnetic adhesive contact surface to provide for a long life and less maintenance.
