MHEFI Honors Retiring Varner
The Material Handling Education Foundation Inc. (MHEFI) has honored Donna Varner, a cornerstone of the supply chain industry, with the 2025 MHEFI Exceptional Contribution Award.
Donna, affectionately known as “the heart and soul” of MHI and MHEFI, leaves behind an extraordinary legacy of service, leadership, and commitment to advancing education in the material handling and supply chain fields.
During her distinguished career as MHI’s Director of Events and Administration and MHEFI Executive Director, Donna’s dedication has shaped the success of both organizations and created opportunities for the next generation of supply chain professionals.
“She’s touched every part of MHI. She’s touched our MHI team, our members, and our board. She also had a major impact on the students in our industry,” said John Paxton, MHI CEO.
“Donna has single-handedly provided scholarships for 579 students.”
Donna’s reputation for exceptional service has also been noted by several members of MHI’s Board of Governors.
Bryan Jensen, Chair of the MHI Board of Governors and Executive Vice President of St. Onge Company, praised her profound impact: “One big reason why MHI has created the momentum it has, grown the way it has, and has been able to serve the supply chain industry the way it has, is ultimately the ripple effect that Donna’s involvement in the organization has had on the entire supply chain.”
As Donna prepares to retire at the end of 2024, to ensure that her legacy will endure, MHI has established “The Donna Varner Honor Scholarship” for $50,000. Scholarships of $5,000 will be awarded annually for a minimum of 10 years and they will support students pursuing careers in the material handling and supply chain industry – a fitting tribute to Donna’s unparalleled commitment to education.
- MHEFI’s call for scholarships is currently open for the 2025/2026 academic year. Eligible undergraduates are encouraged to learn more and apply at mhefi.smapply.org.
