New Baggage Handling Conveyor
Jervis B. Webb Company, a subsidiary of Daifuku North America Holding Company, has launched a new energy-efficient baggage handling conveyor that features Permanent Magnet Motors (PMMs).
The mechanical components in the PMM gearmotor include a reduced number of variants and feature a compact, lightweight design.
The system-wide model variance reduces the number of spare parts required and the lightweight design requires less power due to the permanent magnet technology.
No mechanical brakes or fans are needed, which also reduces maintenance costs. In addition, the WebbView Baggage Handling Control System can monitor the motor power consumption and temperature to highlight potential motor or conveyor problems before any costly downtime occurs.
“The impact of this type of drive is considerable. It’s not only the 40% energy savings, but also the additional benefits of predictive downtime, reduced spare part inventory, and decreased total cost of ownership by more than 50% compared to conventional solutions,” said Rob Schmit, president of Jervis B. Webb Company. “Our dedicated engineers continue to deliver innovative systems that help our clients meet their goals throughout their operations.”
Webb installed its first energy-efficient conveyor system at Los Angeles International Airport, featuring 480 PMMs.
