Orbis ORBIShield ECO
Orbis Corporation has launched ORBIShield ECO, a new eco-friendly dunnage product line focused on providing protective packaging solutions while reducing environmental impacts.
ORBIShield ECO offers a wide range of products which utilize materials that reduce solid waste generation and carbon footprint, without compromising on product protection or performance. This product line is designed to meet the growing needs of businesses who are increasingly conscious of the impact that packaging has on the environment.
Furthering Orbis’s commitment to the circular economy, this new product line promotes and demonstrates the reuse of materials and reduces reliance on single-use packaging.
Like all Orbis products, this line is designed with sustainability in mind. The ORBIShield ECO line is produced using recovered and reprocessed plastic resins and can be recycled at end of life, making it an ideal solution for companies looking to enhance their sustainability efforts.
“We are thrilled to introduce ORBIShield ECO to the market, as this highlights our ongoing commitment to providing innovative, sustainable packaging solutions,” said Greg Leighton, product manager at Orbis Corporation.
“With this new line, we aim to empower our customers to make a positive difference in the world while protecting their valuable products.”
ORBIShield ECO offers a wide range of products including:
- ECOLux: Crafted from Polypropylene, ECOLux coated fabric surpasses vinyl coated and laminated textiles in terms of sustainability. It is more cost-effective than Polyurethane or Silicon coated fabrics, and it is also free from harmful substances such as Phthalates, Dioxins, PFAS, and heavy metals. In comparison to PVC textiles, ECOLux fabric boasts nearly half the weight, at least a 50% lower carbon footprint, and provides complete circularity (recyclable for reuse). This makes it a highly desirable alternative to clear PVC, as well as light and heavy weight PVC, which are not accepted by most recyclers in North America. ECOLux is an ideal material for curtains, dust covers, and full fabric dunnage solutions.
- Evolon Laminate: This innovative solution offers unparalleled softness and contributes to reducing the carbon footprint of the automotive packaging industry. With 70% postconsumer recycled content, Evolon lamination ensures lint-free protection for highly delicate parts while simultaneously supporting the beneficial reuse of recovered post-consumer material. Each square foot of Evolon lamination is equivalent to diverting one post-consumer bottle from a landfill. By incorporating this sustainable material into our packaging solutions, we are actively promoting sustainable packaging practices. Unlike traditional staple fibers, Evolon microfilaments are endless, resulting in a fabric that is entirely lint-free. This unique characteristic provides both exceptional mechanical strength and a gentle touch, making Evolon microfilament fabrics the ideal choice for contact with sensitive surfaces.
- EPE: EPE (Expanded Polyethylene Foam) is a lightweight and durable closed cell beaded foam used for protecting and cushioning products during transportation and storage. At end of life, it is 100% recyclable and reduces the Carbon Footprint by 40% compared to other foam packaging options. EPE foam can be used in various applications, such as dunnage rails, cavity pads, and cushioning. It offers performance benefits, such as tear resistance, thermal fusion of beads, no ghosting of painted parts, chemical resistance, and non-absorbent properties.
In addition to new materials, Orbis offers a diverse selection of standard materials to support sustainable dunnage initiatives. These include corrugated, trilaminate, and solid sheet materials, all of which can be considered “zero waste” products as Orbis recovers, reprocesses, and reuses byproducts from its extrusion and cutting operations to create additional sheets eliminating the need for additional raw material. Other Orbis materials such as LiteFoam, plastic corrugated, Trilaminate, and HDPE are all recyclable.
