Terex Utilities Shows Bucket Trucks, Digger Derricks
Terex Utilities showcased the next generation of technology for bucket trucks and digger derricks at two tradeshows in March.
The Optima TC55 bucket truck at NRECA’s Tech Advantage in Atlanta, Ga. was equipped with the vehicle camera system; the cutting-edge 3rd Eye digital platform featuring a 360° camera system with AI technology; and Reverse Automatic Braking Technology.
At NTEA Work Truck Week in Indianapolis, Ind. Terex displayed a Commander C5050 digger derrick with Flex Pro controls and partnered with Mack Trucks, Inc. with the next generation of a Terex zero-emissions bucket truck in the Mack booth.
“Many of our innovative products have come to fruition based on customer feedback and market need. We continue to listen to our customers and work to develop solutions for real-world challenges,” said Tyler Schwingler, Product Marketing Manager for Terex Utilities.
NTEA Work Truck Week
Attendees at NTEA Work Truck Week, March 4-7, were able to see a Commander C5050 digger derrick with Flex Pro controls in the Terex booth. Flex Pro is a suite of electric control consoles that provides operators the ability to execute digger derrick functions with precision and accuracy.
Flex Pro consoles include multiple electronic joystick layouts based on the operators’ preferences. Flex Pro also offers up to a half dozen radio remote configurations to give digger derrick operators the controls that best fit their needs.
The industry’s latest all-electric bucket truck was also on display at NTEA Work Truck Week.
Terex Utilities announced the launch of the latest EV bucket truck option with Mack last month.
“We installed our industry-leading Optima HR55 aerial device powered by the HyPower SmartPTO by Viatec on the Mack MD7 Electric chassis to deliver a zero-emissions utility truck that can drive farther and haul more cargo,” said Schwingler.
“Our collaboration with Mack Trucks represents continued movement forward in zero-emissions utility vehicles.” The Mack chassis also featured a 3rd Eye 360° camera system with AI technology.

NRECA Tech Advantage
Terex Utilities featured an Optima TC55 aerial device at TechAdvantage, March 9-12.
The chassis was equipped with the cutting-edge 3rd Eye digital platform, seamlessly integrating advanced camera systems, AI, and industry leading technology to maximize safety and productivity.
3rd Eye’s advanced imaging technology dynamically integrates video from multiple cameras into a real-time, 360° bird’s-eye view of the truck.
The system provides operators with an unmatched level of situational awareness for superior maneuverability and safety. The truck also featured 3rd Eye’s prototype of a Reverse Automatic Braking Technology, which enhances protection by detecting potential hazards, providing visual and audible alerts, and applying the brakes automatically, without driver intervention.
“Best of all, the 3rd Eye System is wirelessly connected to the cloud, continuously capturing and storing critical operational data and video, providing fleet managers real-time visibility into driver performance, chassis and body activity, and equipment status,” said Eric Monsen, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Environmental Solutions Group.
“These comprehensive insights not only improve safety and reduce liability but also create a detailed event record and help identify coachable opportunities to reinforce safe driving behaviors.”
The Optima TC55 aerial has nearly 43 feet of side reach and can be lowered near the ground, making it easier for operators to handle tools and equipment passed from the crew.
